Ilene Lande is a graduate of the University of Iowa (BS 1973, PhD 1978 Microbiology/Immunology). She and her husband have operated a family farming operation since 1980. Ilene founded EBI in 1988 to provide high quality antiserum and other animal blood products for research use. She directly oversees all steps in the antiserum production and has become known as "the Sheep Lady," providing antisera to research labs nationwide for 21 years. The sheep used by EBI are bred and raised on-site in classic, turn-of-the-century barns, without the use of feed antibiotics, and with access to 5 acres of wooded pasture ground. The goats are raised by Amish dairy farmers located a few miles from EBI.
