Libraries of antisera are available commercially, but the specificity of these products is unpredictable. More commonly, the particular antiserum required is not available and must be developed. Immunization of animals with purified protein or peptide fragments can be used to generate exquisitely specific antibodies. However, not every lab has the ability or desire to perform this procedure in house.
